Tiere in Japan – Mandschurenkraniche (Teil 2/6)

Animals in Japan – red-crowned cranes (Part 2/6)

Around noon on the third day we had to say goodbye to the cute Snow Monkeys and drove back from Nagano to Tokyo to fly early the next morning to Hokkaido.

On the fourth day we arrived in Hokkaido and went straight from the airport to the Crane Center, where we reserved our seats with the tripods. Here there were many red-crowned cranes and whooper swans to photograph. Flying, standing, running, lying and dancing. In the afternoon we stopped at a second location on the way to the hotel to save more red-crowned cranes and sika deers on memory cards.

For the 5th day it was planned to take the bus to a bridge at 4 o’clock in the morning. If the weather is fine, you can photograph a very mystical scene from the bridge at sunrise. Why already at 4 o’clock? At this time there were already 2 more buses full of photographers at the bridge and there was quite a crowd. The weather didn’t play along that day, so we drove to the hotel for breakfast and spent another day in the Crane Center.

Also on the 6th day we drove again early in the morning to the bridge, but this time only around 6 o’clock, so that we could only take pictures from the 2nd or 3rd row. The weather was better today so that we could take nice pictures of the red-crowned cranes in the foggy riverbed at sunrise. After breakfast we continued our journey to Lake Kussharo.
